If you are having a contrast CT scan, you should not eat 4 hours before the scan.
Tablets containing metformin used to treat diabetes (eg. ADIMET, MEFORAL, MERCKFORMIN, METFOGAMMA, METFORMIN MYLAN, MYLMET, etc.) should be stopped two days before the CT scan and should not be taken for two days after the scan. Take your other medicines (blood pressure, heart, or other medicines) as usual.
Imaging examinations can be authorised by the authorised specialist. At our institute, the examinations are based on an appointment list, and doctors at our partner institutes can make appointments online or by telephone.
CT and MR scans are performed with a referral from a specialist, at an appointment scheduled by the referring specialist. Please contact your specialist for a referral and to make an appointment.
We mainly use anaesthesia-guided imaging tests in children. The tests are performed after a complete internal anaesthetic examination. The complete anaesthesiological background for the examination is available in our institute (MR comatibile equipment, anaesthesiologist specialist – KMOK anaesthesiology provided, adult – paediatric – Intensive Therapy background within a few minutes).
The CT (computed tomography) machine collects data using an X-ray source and a detector rotating around the body, and then uses computer reconstruction to create cross-sectional images of the body.
MR (magnetic resonance) imaging uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to image the inside of the body. The scan does not expose the subject to X-rays. The MR scan is noisy.
CT scans are not available for pregnant women, and for children, the nature of the disease will determine whether a CT scan is appropriate. In the case of kidney disease, a CT scan with contrast agents cannot be performed.
An MR scan cannot be performed if certain metals that have been implanted in the body, this is decided by the radiologist before the scan. In the case of a pacemaker, the scan is NOT performed! In the case of a bullet, shot, metal fragment, if the bullet, shot, metal fragment is in the face (around the eye), the examination is NOT performed! In the case of a brain or aneurysm clip, heart valve or stent, only examine the patient if he/she brings a written opinion that they are MR compatible. Artificial eyes, hearing aids, joint prostheses, artificial limbs and orthopaedic metal materials (screws, plates, nails, wires) may be examined. Other metal objects or metallic materials (e.g. dental fillings, dental bridges, dental crowns, spirals) can also be tested.
The examination time depends ont he nature of the body part and the ailment. The average time of a CT scan is 10 minutes.
The examination time depends on the nature of the body part and the ailment. The average time of an MR scan is 20-25 minutes.
This is a simple consultation. The doctor will carefully review your medical records and examine your medical history. This will tell you what treatment you can expect. He will answer any questions you may have. Arrange any further tests you need. For example, CT, MR or PET/CT/MR. We have all this available in one place (Imaging Diagnostics Department, Medicopus Nonprofit Ltd.). You can schedule an appointment within 1-2 weeks, preferably on the same day. In case of combined (chemo-radio) therapy, chemotherapy is also agreed upon, which is done at the Clinical Oncology Department of SM Kaposi Mór Teaching Hospital (Tallián Gyula utca 20-32). No treatment is given for the first time (except in life-threatening cases). Treatment requires careful preparation, as high doses are delivered to the tumour with amazing precision. Therefore, a CT scan is required in the position in which the radiation treatment will be given. On this basis, we will plan your treatment. Depending on the type of tumour being treated, this may be done on the day of the outpatient scan or booked for a later date. If possible, this will be in conjunction with the diagnostic test.
Ionising radiation is used to destroy tumour cells. However, with proper preparation and the use of modern irradiation techniques, intact organs and tissues can be extremely well protected. Therefore, a CT scan is required in the position in which the radiotherapy will be carried out. We will plan your treatment on this basis. The CT scan is not unpleasant. It is usually not necessary to inject contrast material. The purpose of the scan is not to identify your condition but to plan your treatment. It is important that you remain in the same position at all times during radiotherapy, so a photograph of your body position will be taken during the planned CT scan and your positioning will be documented. During the planning CT, you should lie still and relax your muscles, not contract them. You can take your usual medication before the scan! If you agree, we will use cosmetic tattooing to mark the skin. This is highly recommended as it improves your daily alignment. The treatment will then be based on these markings (this will be the starting point, you will receive the final embossing during the treatment).
You will receive 3-5 treatments a week, either as a ward stay or with daily visits. Patient transport can be arranged on request. You must arrive on time. You only need to bring the small treatment card you received at the outpatient clinic. This must be signed out at reception. The treatment will involve minimal inconvenience. You have to lie down on the treatment table in the same way as for a CT scan. The treatment is safe and quick. It takes about 10 minutes (about 30 minutes for a complex treatment), during which time you have to lie still and relax. During the treatment, a CT or rtg scan is taken first, which is used to precisely position the treatment area. This allows for precise adjustment. This allows high doses to be delivered. Intact tissue and organs can be protected to the maximum extent. Side effects are reduced. The duration of the treatment may vary, it may feel longer, but you will receive the same treatment every day. The machine will rotate around you but will not touch you. You will not feel anything during the treatment. There will be no pain. If there are any problems, we will be able to see you on camera, you can wave your hand to let us know!
Stereotactic irradiation is the state-of-the-art method of radiotherapy today, delivering significantly higher daily doses than conventional treatments, with maximum sparing of the surrounding healthy tissue.
The treatment is similar to conventional radiotherapy, using the same treatment machine. But, because it is a more complex treatment, it can take longer, 20-40 minutes, during which you have to lie still and breathe evenly and shallowly. There is no need to worry about coughing as the machine will automatically stop. During the treatment, a CT or CT scan is taken first to determine the exact treatment area and then the treatment starts. The machine will rotate around you but will not touch you. You will not feel anything during the treatment. There will be no pain. We will monitor the position of the tumour and your breathing. If there are any problems, you will be monitored via a camera and you can use your hand to signal any problems.
Proximity therapy is a specialised radiation treatment. Vaginal proximity therapy involves the use of radioactive isotopes, which are delivered to the area to be treated using plastic cylinders or cylinders inserted into the vagina. The procedure is well tolerated and requires no special preparation or anaesthesia. The treatment is usually done every other day and does not require hospitalisation. Treatment of cervical tumours is carried out using a tiny radioactive substance, which is delivered directly into or near the tumour using special hollow proximity therapy devices (applicators) and needles, using remote control. This technique allows a very high radiation therapy dose to be delivered directly to the tumour, while reducing the radiation exposure to the surrounding normal tissue. Treatment requires a few days in hospital.
At our Oncology Centre, care is provided by appointment. The time given is for information only, delays may occur, which may increase the waiting time. Radiotherapy treatment for patients receiving ambulance, in-patient, ward or parallel chemotherapy is provided on an out-of-sequence basis. Special technical considerations must be taken into account during treatment. Radiotherapy treatments are carried out on two modern linear accelerators, with a separate appointment. All our patients are treated on the machine for which they have an appointment. Waiting times may vary between the two machines. Our staff do their utmost to ensure that the treatment of our patients goes smoothly.
NO. You will not be permanently exposed to any isotopes during your treatment, so you will not be exposed to any radiation after your treatment or in your home, which means you do not pose a risk to your environment. Contact with children is allowed.
It is recommended to rest for a longer period between treatments, if you have the opportunity, do so in the fresh air. Get plenty of exercise, be active! Avoid exposing the treated area to any irritants (e.g. alcohol-based aftershave/deodorant, direct sunlight, infrared light, hot air, tight clothing, massage). Skin care. In summer, use high sunscreen (minimum factor 50), stay in the shade. Swimming in swimming pools or natural waters is not prohibited during the treatment, but avoid using saunas and thermal baths for 6 weeks after the treatment. For your own safety, avoid smoking and drinking alcohol both during and after treatment. Smoking increases the risk of both late side effects and cancer recurrence. You will see your doctor regularly during your treatment. You should always report any complaints at these check-ups, as symptomatic treatment can only be prescribed on this basis. In the event of a sudden, unexpected complaint or feeling unwell, you should seek emergency help. If you are taking a medicine from another source (e.g. Cannabis, Culevit, Avemar, etc.) or a high dose of vitamins, tell your doctor immediately. Ongoing dietetic advice is also available at our institute, as well as psychological counselling. Please feel free to make use of these services. A psychologist will help you to become empowered to manage and resolve your life situations, or to learn to accept – perhaps in a different light – what cannot be changed. A psychologist does not deal with “fools”, but helps people who have problems and difficulties and want to take action to solve them. Please contact your doctor or a member of our team if you have a need for this.
