Diagnostic examinations are available from Monday to Friday from 07.00 to 21.00 and on Saturdays from 07.00 to 19.00 by appointment. Emergency patients are seen on a continuous basis seven days a week.

Diagnostic CT scans

Siemens Definition Flash CT is a 128-slice CT machine (the number of images of any region of the human body taken in a single scan), so the scan is much faster than the less slice machines commonly used, resulting in a shorter exposure time for the patient. In addition to routine examinations, the CT scanner can be used for specialised cardiological examinations.
The patient table has a maximum load capacity of 220kg.

Planning CT Scans

The planning CT examinations are performed with the SIEMENS SOMATOM Definition AS+ 64-slice machine by staff experienced in radiotherapy. The scans are necessary for the accurate planning of radiotherapy.
The patient table has a maximum load capacity of 220 kg.

PET CT Scans

PET CT scans are performed using a Siemens Biograph True Point 64-slice machine, combining the high sensitivity of PET scanning for functional abnormalities with the excellent anatomical resolution of CT scanning.
The patient table has a maximum load capacity of 200kg.

MR Scans

The Siemens Magnetom Sola 1.5T, installed in 2023, a new dimension in imaging, more accurate MR scans, even better abdominal diagnostics with the latest technology, a high-end 1.5 Tesla MR machine. In addition to routine examinations, it is also possible to perform specialised examinations, cardiac MR examinations, enterography, full body MR, angiography.
The patient table has a maximum load capacity of 220 kg.

PET MR examinations

At present, the most advanced PET/MR equipment available in Hungary for human diagnostics is the Siemens Biograph mMR with 3 Tesla magnetic field. This has the advantage that better quality images can be obtained by fusion with PET scans without increasing the examination time.
The patient table has a maximum load capacity of 200 kg.

About Us

We started our operations within the University of Kaposvár. The institute was founded between 1988-1990, based on the idea of Péter Horn, Academician, and organised by Dr. József Baka, Director General of Economics. Operating first as a Health Centre and then as a Headquarters, our Institute has steadily reduced the technological gap with developed Western countries in the fields of imaging, radiotherapy and healthcare over the decades. School-preparatory scientific workshops in several disciplines have been established. We played a prominent role in the introduction and continuous development of 3D-based digital cross-sectional modern imaging and imaging-based radiotherapy in rural Hungary. During the South Slavic Crisis from 1994 to 2002, our Institute provided diagnostic services for the US Army SFOR. We have research collaborations with leading research institutions and universities in more than 14 countries, including Harvard Medical School, Allgemeines Krankenhaus der Stadt Wien Universitätskliniken and Siemens Healthcare – Erlangen, which go back several decades. As of 1 February 2018 the institute bears the name of its former founder, Somogy County Kaposi Mór Teaching Hospital, Dr. Baka József Center for Diagnostic Imaging, Radiation Oncoradiology, Research and Education.
